ATRA x Métaphores

ATRA, in collaboration with Métaphores, unveils Cosmo Nova.

ATRA and Métaphores unveil Cosmo Nova, an immersive installation opening on April 30, 2026. Driven by curiosity and imagination, the project invites visitors to wander through a dreamlike landscape where objects, textures, and light come together to form a self-contained universe. Conceived as a dialogue between furniture, textiles, sound, and light, the installation unfolds like a suspended landscape where time, space, and material presence converge.

As part of the ongoing exploration of scales ranging from the infinitely small to the cosmic, a pursuit shared by ATRA and Métaphores, the installation reflects a design philosophy shaped by nature and a search for timelessness. “Through our conversations with Emilie Paralitici, Artistic Director of Métaphores, it became clear that we shared a common conceptual approach to design and storytelling,” says Alexander Díaz Andersson. “This collaboration is a particularly pure expression of that connection. We both draw inspiration from the grandeur of nature and from the idea of time on a cosmic scale. We reflect on the relationship between space, the Earth, and the present moment we inhabit.”

Emilie Paralitici adds: “Cosmo Nova distills the essence of our shared values through sensory experience and emotion. It is the convergence of our creative visions, guided by the same sincerity and by a desire to offer a space where people can fully embrace the present moment.”

Inspired by satellite surfaces, mineral formations, desert expanses, and both terrestrial and planetary landscapes, the installation creates an environment in which objects appear to float within an ethereal field. Furniture and textiles orbit one another like fragments of a larger system, tracing a path through a liminal space. Visitors move through a suspended state between two worlds, immersed in shifting textures, plays of light, and sonic landscapes.

Sound plays a central role within the installation. Original compositions, diffused through selected furniture pieces, extend these immaterial landscapes and add another atmospheric dimension. This integration deepens the sense of immersion and reinforces the feeling of entering a singular, enveloping environment.

“In troubled times, it can become difficult to dream and to find moments of peace and presence,” explains Andersson. “The gravity of our era and the transformations unfolding around us impose a harsh reality. Yet continuing to dream, to experience wonder, and to reflect on our place in the world, in time, and in the universe remains essential.”

The installation thus presents itself as a moment of pause, a space for contemplation and reflection. It evokes simple and universal sensations: looking up at the stars, feeling the comfort of being surrounded by loved ones, walking across fresh snow while hearing its muted crunch, sensing the fragrance of spring or the colors of autumn. These fleeting experiences suddenly reveal what is truly worth preserving.

Materials play both a structural and mnemonic role. Textiles, surfaces, and forms are not merely visual elements, but sensory anchors capable of awakening emotions, memories, and embodied experiences. Through this material dialogue, ATRA and Métaphores shape a universe that is both tangible and conceptual.

Ultimately, Cosmo Nova offers a suspended moment, a pause within the flow of time. A space to drift, reflect, and reconnect with wonder. The project invites each visitor to engage with the present through curiosity, awareness, and joy.

Cosmo Nova opens on April 30, 2026, at 43 Clarkson Street and will remain on view through the end of June by appointment only. During New York Design Week (May 14–20), the installation will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
