CÔTE SAUVAGE - A JOURNEY INTO MATERIALS

Painting with fabrics. Emilie Paralitici, Director of Creation and Image at MÉTAPHORES, created the “Côte Sauvage” screen using the 2021 ÉLÉMENTS TERRE collection.

Inspired by coastal landscapes sculpted by wind and sea, the Côte Sauvage screen is an original creation composed of fabrics, leather and woven horsehair. Echoing the theme of the Eléments Terre collection, the precisely sheathed surfaces of the design come together to express a palette of colours and vibrant materials. This unique piece, created with the expertise and know-how of the house Cuir au Carré, is now on display in the Métaphores showroom in Paris.

The fine, irregular structure of the Sauvage fabric, the golden threads of Pépite wool satin and the Japanese-inspired embroidery of Ria velvet blend finely and gracefully with leather and horsehair. The selection of leather finishes gives the creation texture—a metallic effect bathes the landscape in light, a shagreen-effect leather adds shimmer, and an aged and crackled leather highlights the earthy aspect—playing on contrasts with more matt effects.

To the eye, the sand blazes white, the sea deploys its blues, and the cliffs stand majestic. To the touch, its sensations are rich and generous. Métaphores has never worn its “Weaver of Inspiration” signature so well.

A CREATIVE COLLABORATION

“We decided to accept to Métaphores’ invitation because we have followed this French textile house for a long time and love its contemporary and refined creations. We were attracted by the horsehair weaving and the textile collections created this year around the Eléments Terre collection, with its mineral and graphic materials. The finishes, colourways and colour palettes give our know-how another dimension and new inspirations through the work on shapes and landscapes that ignite dreams of freedom and nature,” explains Charline Raynaud, of Cuir au Carré.

The screen is made using Métaphores fabrics from the 2021 Eléments Terre collection:

Pépite fabric in Platine & Vermeil, 300 cm width, front and reverse

Snake horsehair fabric in Houblon & Emeraude, 50-55 cm width

Sauvage fabric in Sucre - Brume - Lagon, 140 cm width

And the Concorde Or, Vaugirard Neige and Madeleine blanc/blanc leather ranges by Cuir au Carré.
